Life Flower Dispensary Marijuana and Veterans
You may have heard about the success veterans are having with medical marijuana and wondered how it helps and why it is rapidly becoming the medicine of choice for our military veterans. Medical cannabis has been shown to be a viable alternative to deadly, addictive opioids in alleviating painful symptoms. In 2017 alone, opioids were responsible for more than 47,000 American deaths. Beyond pain relief, marijuana is also effective in helping with the emotional, mental, and psychological trauma that can occur as a result of military duty. There is existing clinical research which supports the use of marijuana to treat certain medical conditions, including but not limited to PTSD, glaucoma, chronic pain, cancer, multiple sclerosis, chemotherapy-induced nausea, epilepsy and other seizure disorders, and traumatic brain injury.
What are the Risks?
Although much is known about the addictive power of opioids and the associated risks, research into marijuana addiction and possible repercussions is in its infancy. There are risks in other categories specifically involving marijuana and veterans, however. For instance, because marijuana is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug and illegal at the federal level, a veteran runs the risk of losing the right to carry a weapon if he or she uses medical marijuana at this time. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, “Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her state has passed legislation authorizing marijuana for medicinal purposes is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance and is prohibited by Federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.” There are several organizations attempting to correct the problem of access to medical marijuana, including the Veterans Cannabis Project, Weed for Warriors, and others. We believe veterans should have full legal access to medical marijuana and support the efforts of these organizations.

How Life Flower Gives Back to Veterans
Active duty service members and military veterans are more than twice as likely to commit suicide as their civilian counterparts. Many men and women finish their service and attempt to return to civilian life but are burdened with crippling PTSD and anxiety. Medical marijuana for veterans can help ease the burden of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain many are forced to deal with. At Life Flower Dispensary, we are thankful for our military service members and the sacrifices they make every day. We support the Weed for Warriors program in making medical marijuana available and easily accessible to our military veterans. We donate a portion of the sale of edibles from brands like Stillwater, Infinite Infusions, Med Pharm, Oh Hi and Dixie to the Weed for Warriors program. In addition, we currently offer 10% off to all veterans who shop with us at Life Flower Dispensary in Denver and Glendale.
