Event Recap: Dope Cup – Colorado 2017

The first annual Colorado DOPE Cup presented by BOSM Labs was a glorious success. Over 1000 guests poured in from all over Colorado to join the fun and sample some of the tastiest terps that Denver has to offer. By 4pm the lines were getting long, and as soon as the gates opened, guests were eager to explore the amazing venue and check out all of the fantastic booths and sponsors, like FlavRx, Dynavap, V3Oils, Starbuds and Willies Reserve. Upon entering presenting sponsor BOSM had the Loopr bus ready and stacked with BOSM goods. The event was located at Cluster Studios in Northeast Denver, intricate and artistic in design, with geometric patterns and wall-based foliage installments throughout the entrances, Cluster was a great home to the inaugural Colorado DOPE Cup. Wide and open, with an epic photo booth, a grower/competitors lounge, and VIP area, Cluster had the dope set up.

Guests were invited to sample product in any of the Sponsored canna-busses surrounding the outdoor vending area. The vibe was modern yet rustic—High Noon, a wild west theme worthy of the Colorado cannabis culture. The first few hours were spent mingling, collecting goody bags from various vendors, and sampling tastes from the top competitors. The entertainment for the night was provided by Maddy O’neal, one of Denver’s fastest growing music artists and one of the baddest chicks in the scene. Her original, abstract and funky beats are gaining her quite the reputation in the Pretty Lights family, and she made her DOPE Cup performance extra special by debuting her live band for the first time. Maddy’s high energy and infectious melodies were exactly what a crowd full of dabbers needed to keep the party going.

Thanks to esteemed judges at The Trichome Institute, and testing from Gobi Labs we couldn’t have been more excited about the selected winners for the evening. A few of the top competitors included Life Flower Dispensary and their “Ghost Claim” HCFSE (high cannabinoid full spectrum extract) Live Resin, Allgreens LLC and the Private Reserve Original “Cheese” Rosin, NectarBee and their Blueberry Pure Shatter, Harmony Extracts and Their Lemon G Wax, Denver-Rec and their “Holy Grail Kush” for best Indica, and finally another winner from Denver-Rec for their “Cookie Dough” for best sativa flower. The full list of winners is below. Thank you Colorado for making the first ever Colorado DOPE Cup the stuff of dreams. We will see you in 2018!
Melissa was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, where she couldn’t stay out of trouble for smoking weed–especially during college. Immediately after graduating with a business degree from Elmhurst College in 2012, Melissa made her way to the safe smoking haven of Colorado, where her love for live music and music blogging eventually led her to a part-time writing position with DOPE Magazine. Melissa enjoys medicating with indica-dominant hybrids, and will never say no to a big solventless glob. When she isn’t busy writing, Melissa loves spending her time in the mountains with friends, practicing her violin, and exploring the never-ending amounts of dank breweries and restaurants in Denver.
