Boulder City Council decided Tuesday night to delay its consideration of a controversial suite of municipalization-inspired annexations in the area of 55th and Arapahoe.
The hearing was continued to Oct. 18.
City staff proposed annexing 15 parcels near that intersection — including many that are home to existing marijuana businesses — in an effort to bolster Boulder’s application with the state Public Utilities Commission to form a municipal electric utility.
The annexations, staff believes, would help satisfy the commission’s instruction that Boulder clarify its city limits before forming a utility.
Ten affected property owners have asked the city to halt the annexations. Affected business owners and three City Council members have done the same.
Boulder has never before carried out the kind of forced annexation it was set to vote upon Tuesday, and will now revisit in two weeks.
